VILLAGE
OAKS Village Oaks is Covina's landmark professional business park. Located at Holt Boulevard and Interstate 10, Village Oaks continues to set a regional standard. "People from other cities look to Village Oaks as a model. Developments occurring throughout the East San Gabriel Valley since 1980 have been measured against Village Oaks and we plan to continue that same standard as the third phase is completed," said Mike Marquez, Deputy Director of Redevelopment with the Covina Redevelopment Agency.
Village Oaks has attracted a professional and varied mix of tenants who have service areas ranging from the immediate area to the international community. Tenants include Landmark Homes, Valley Insurance Services, a Farmers Insurance claims office, the Denver Group and Chick's Sporting Goods Corporate Offices. These tenants occupy buildings in the first two phases now complete. Construction on phase three is still under development and a prominent corner site and other lots are still available. Anchoring Village Oaks is the Embassy Suites Hotel, a destination hotel for both business and leisure travelers on the I-10 corridor in the East San Gabriel Valley. The 280-suite upscale hotel sits on freeway frontage and is "by far the highest producer of tax revenue for our city," said Marquez. Lush gardens blend the hotel into its hillside surroundings and every room is designed as a two-room suite complete with separate living and sleeping areas. Many travelers are attracted by the hotel's location, which gives them easy access to most Southern California attractions as well as major business and industry locations. New York Stock Exchange member office Crowell Weedon has occupied Village Oaks office space since 1985. The stockbroker has been a Covina fixture for almost 40 years and is the only NYSE member office in the area with a staff of 16 stockbrokers. It's the convenience of Village Oaks that makes the park a winner with clients said Branch Manager Barry Cohen. "It's a great location, just one turn off the freeway," said Cohen. The office deals with a large local client base in addition to its national and international customers. "We deal with individuals building retirements, with everyone from businessmen to professionals to retirees. We do full financial planning," explained Cohen. "Covina and surrounding communities within the East San Gabriel Valley have high per capita income and much of the population is old enough to be serious about investment." Many Village Oaks tenants have been drawn to Covina as much by its population as the Village Oaks setting. "Covina has a diverse and skilled employee base qualified to fill the professional positions these businesses generate," said Marquez. More than 57 percent work at white-collar jobs. Over 2 percent of the workforce have received Bachelor's degrees and 5.7 percent have received graduate degrees. In fact, the San Gabriel Valley as a whole has a higher percentage of highly skilled workers, 32.5 percent more than Los Angeles County as a whole. "The combination of educated employees, upscale environment and prime Southern California location is simply a winner for Village Oaks tenants," said Marquez.
