South Citrus Commercial Corridor

SOUTH CITRUS COMMERCIAL CORRIDOR
(updated July 2000)

The "South Citrus Commercial Corridor" is the gateway to the City of Covina's Historic Downtown and Town Center. Included in this area is Shoppers Lane, which at one time was the primary retail destination for the area's most affluent consumers. Unfortunately over the years the aging district has lost to retirement, many of its mostly independent retailers. These former shopkeepers once catered to affluent and unique product oriented customers. Noting this potential the City of Covina's Redevelopment Agency has joined in partnership with the property owners of this retail district to restore Shoppers Lane to it's past prestigious position in the area.

Shoppers Lane currently provides opportunities for destination retailers to position themselves close to the 10 freeway (two Blocks) and between Covina's "Historic Downtown" to north and the newly renovated Eastland Shopping Center to the south. This business district is located at the intersection of two the major arterials, with a daily traffic count in excess of 35,500. The two arterials, Rowland and Citrus Avenues both lead to some of the most affluent neighborhoods in the east San Gabriel Valley.

The renovation of Shoppers Lane is being anchored by the renovation of a former Chick's Sporting Goods store to the expansion of Bozzani Volvo. This project will be constructed on 2.5 acres of Redevelopment Agency land and will attract many new customers to the South Citrus Corridor. All of the remaining buildings will be eligible for a matching facade grant program, as well as the opportunity to participate in all of the marketing efforts conducted on behalf of Shoppers Lane.

Also located in the "South Citrus Commercial Corridor" is an excellent assortment of other new automobile dealerships. Included in this Citrus Avenue of Cars is GMC Trucks, Buick, Acura, Volkswagen, and Lincoln/Mercury. Enhancing this mix of auto dealers is an Enterprise Car Sales dealership selling their excess rental cars for excellent values. Currently there are two dealership locations available within this viable new car auto row.

Major tenants in the area of the "South Citrus Commercial Corridor" that market to a mostly general consumers include Mervyns, Target, Starbucks, Babies R' Us, Old Navy, TGI Friday's, Office Depot, Marshall's, Burlington Coat Factory, Ross Dress for Less, Albertson's Super Market, Starbucks, Hallmark Gifts, Hollywood Video, Ralph's Super Market, International House of Pancakes, and Bed, Bath and Beyond.
