Downtown Covina

Introduction
A site that should be high on your list for your consideration is Covina's "Historic Downtown", where the city's Redevelopment Agency has invested more than five million dollars through streetscape improvements, facade/storefront enhancements and economic development grants and loans.

The community's vision for this jewel of a "Old Fashion Downtown" is to maintain the area as both a viable retail center and as a leisure time destination. To accomplish those objectives the Redevelopment Agency, the Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Business Association are working to attract a unique mix of merchants that will entice an affluent and urbane clientele. Through the attraction of a community theater, an acoustic performance venue, several quality restaurants, and comfortable and unique coffee houses the city has created an urban neighborhood environment in a suburban setting.

Downtown Covina, which was recently selected by the readers of the San Gabriel Valley Tribune as the "Best Downtown Shopping Area" in the region (over "Old Town Pasadena") is a unique mix of restaurants and gourmet coffee shops (with outdoor seating), a bakery, a fine art gallery, antique stores, an historic museum, many craft and collectable shops, rare and contemporary book stores, camera/hobby shops, outdoor sports equipment stores, ticket services, classic clothing shops, and home repair and furnishing stores.

Downtown Entertainment/Restaurants
Covina is becoming the live entertainment soul of the east San Gabriel Valley. Three live entertainment venues currently anchor the classic downtown, which is dotted with coffee houses and restaurants. Downtown entertainment venues include a local music store providing acoustic concerts, live theater performances in drama, musicals and comedy, a tavern exhibiting mainstream rock n' roll, blues, and roots rock, a coffee house presenting alternative rock and jazz performances, art shows at a fine arts gallery, classical guitar and light jazz presentations to accompany dinner at an Italian restaurant, and Mariachis each Friday at a Mexican restaurant.

Downtown Restaurants
The main street of Covina's downtown has several fine restaurants to choose from when enjoying a day of shopping in one of the area's art galleries, antique stores, gift/collectable shops or enjoying an evening of entertainment. Local restaurants include dinning experiences in classic Italian and Continental, authentic Mexican, a California Cuisine bistro, and Japanese/Sushi Bar. For coffee, baked treats and light meals Downtown Covina has five different locations all with side walk seating.

Special Events
Each year the Downtown presents several major special events attracting thousands of potential customers to the "Historic Town Center". Included in these events major car show co-sponsored by the National Hot Rod Association, two full day street festivals, an invitational Christmas parade (third largest in LA County), weekly street/farmers market, and an annual blues festival.

COVINA PARK
A short walk from the downtown is Covina Park. This fine historic facility has been recognized as one of LA County's top activity parks for it's family evening entertainment programs each summer, it's concert band, it's weekly Arts n' Crafts Fair, it's aquatics facility and it's annual Festival of Music. In 1997 the readers of the San Gabriel Valley Tribune selected the Covina Park as the only community park to be honored as one of the "Best Parks" in the area.
