Covina retailers have per capita sales which so far surpass both Los Angeles County and state levels. In fact, Covina typically exceeds the state per capita sales tax average by 30 to 40 percent. Taxable sales per store are also well above average. Comparisons between Covina and other east San Gabriel Valley cities are even more startling. Covina's taxable sales beat the nearest runner-up by a commanding 170 percent. These are numbers to make a site selector's heart beat faster.

Covina's retail success is a product of its solid market demographics. Consider the numbers for a five mile radius centered on the city's North Azusa Avenue retail mecca. A youthful population of 376,601 "median age 30.7 years old" take home average family income of $60,227. A substantial 25 percent go to work right in Covina, a rate nearly double that of other San Gabriel Valley cities. More than 57 percent work at white collar jobs, and 66 percent own their homes. The numbers paint a portrait of a stable, prosperous community, the epitome of the "American Heartland."

Covina is cradled by four freeways-the 10, the 210, the 605, and the 57. A strong grid of major streets provides surface access, their very names resonant with the history of the area: Citrus Avenue, Azusa Avenue, Grand Avenue, Arrow Highway, Covina Boulevard, Badillo Street, and Cypress Street. At the center of it all is the historic downtown, newly enriched with quality restaurants, live theater, and a Metrolink Station bedecked with period light fixtures and classic architectural touches.
